“It’s like sharks with frickin laser beams on their heads”

Thank you to all of our valued AG customers for your support and dedication the application and the industry.

During the post launch of Affiliate Genie there were some features and add on tools that many of you have requested which led me to begin development of a more robust database driven version of the application.

Before I go into any details about what I am working on I would like to share a little more on why Affiliate Genie was built the way we built it originally.

For starters we choose a flat file system to make deployment of AG on lower end servers as easy as possible – recognizing that this had limited some of the capabilities such as delayed posting and dating of articles and products. The flat file system also made transferring or selling of an AG site a simple process.

We kept the theme engine as simple as possible to facilitate easy editing of your theme within the control panel of AG. Limiting the absolute control of being able to change the layout.

For the most part these benefits made Affiliate Genie a very popular and highly utilized tool in the Internet Marketing  industry.

All in all AG was designed to make deploying Affiliate review sites as easy as possible regardless of your web design skills. In reality most Affiliate Marketers are not web designers or programmers – your lively hood is in using scripts and applications to promote your sites and make your sales. Well we are dedicated to helping make that easier for you.

After the initial launch I developed some plug ins to give even more control and power to Affiliate Genie which to be honest came with a lack luster response from many.

However I have received feedback from those that are using them and it is great to hear that they are really helping AG users to build high converting sites.

So what now?

Now! I am working on a completely new affiliate site building tool based off the original concept – but taking all the feedback (good & bad) from our user base and developing a completely new affiliate site building system.

Code name Predator will be taking everything that made Affiliate Genie so great and adding so much more to it.

Prior to retail launch all existing  Affiliate Genie customers will have a limited time opportunity to purchase Predator for only the difference between the the retail price and the price of AG. That will be a $97 discount over the retail launch price.

You will have the opportunity to own Predator before it is even available to the retail market.

What makes Predator so deadly efficient?

  1. Predator will be a Database driven application allowing for more versatility.
  2. The release will include an easy web based install process (no code editing required at all).
  3. Post dating and delayed posting will be available right out of the gate
  4. Importing/Conversion of a current Affiliate Genie site with a few clicks.
  5. More powerful SEO options including custom unlimited length titles for pages.
  6. Theme development tools – Complete customization of layout and site design including SDK for advanced users.
  7. Instant theme switching no need for messing around inside your site.
  8. Replaced the buggy TinyMCE with a more robust lightweight WYSIWYG content editor.
  9. Image upload into reviews & articles.
  10. Sub category management.
  11. Unlimited featured promos that can be targeted to specific pages.
  12. Buried pages (not present in any menu) Great for landing pages.

These are just a few of the features myself and the programming team are writing into AG – Predator.

Here are a couple of screens of the development site (rudimentary theme applied).

AG Predator - Main Page

AG Predator - Admin

Now for the best part!

Because this application is currently classed as in development I am reaching out to YOU the valued Affiliate Genie users to gain your input. You have the chance to help mold this product in the ULTIMATE online marketing site builder.

As an added bonus with this version there will be a development license included for the theme SDK allowing those that are so inclined to build and sell themes and theme packs.

That’s right as a Predator affiliate you will be able to build your own income stream selling your custom themes for Predator – either as OTO or a stand alone product. We will even provide you with the SDK to build the themes prior to the Affiliate launch.

So here you go folks it is your time to shine.

Leave me a comment detailing what you want in Predator!

Aanything that is possible to code in for you

WE WILL!!!

I look forward to your input – With your help we can make this the deadliest affiliate tool to hit the Internet marketing industry since … well use your imagination ;)

P.S. – Prior to the official launch I will be releasing the theme SDK for two reasons. 1. To give you a head start developing a theme prior to purchasing the application 2. Anyone that develops a high quality theme, submits the theme to us and has it approved by the AG Team for official release will receive a COMPLETELY FREE copy of the final release version of the software.

  1. I have affiliate genie and would love to learn how this will be better, and more importantly the difference in price.

For themes, can they be existing themes available that are nice, just ported to predator or should be completely original?

  2. Is this a free upgrade for existing costumers? If more then one produc on a single page not able to cloak but one. Cant get the existing spell checker to work, having a hard time with tables, My advise if you are selling this be very carefull with the price

  4. Hi,

Well, it’s early and this is a very simple request, but can the option to have certain words (tagged in the dashboard area) convert to links? So we could do some site and inter site linking a little easier?

    thanks

  5. New AG – training?

Hey Matt, Predator sounds fantastic – very much looking forward to it. And of course, I have a question. Will it have a training component? Having kick-a$$ tools is very much needed & wanted, but the whole thing can die on the vine if the users (i.e. that would be me) don’t fully understand how to get it running and keep it running/tweaked going forward. Hence my question about training. And the only reason I’m asking is that I’ve found with too many products that they have loads of functionality, but fall short on showing/teaching a user/customer how to not only understand the basic functionality of HOW TO START, but also how to maximize it and make it easier each time one uses it. Just wanted to check with you on that.

    Many thanks, much appreciated.

  6. Hi Matt,

Interesting. But I do find myself wondering why people would use this rather then say WordPress?

I liked the initial Aff Genie. But I personally found it quite buggy.

Features such as the quote facility never worked properly and were never fixed.

This needs to be more polished Matt in my opinion.

To me it would be good to have:

1/ Page level ability to change ads at the top.

2/ Built in stats of click through rates of all the links in the site.

    3/ Split testing capabilities

4/ Better ability to put other scripts in. In the original Aff Genie there was only one place where code could be inserted on a page. That is quite limiting because different scripts require different placements in the code.

5/ Categories – This was a major drawback of Aff Genie and the main reason I think why it only had limited uses.

Basically, sites look good up to 30 pages, but after that it is not possible to add in any more pages, because the sidebar looks ridiculously long.

6/ Some ready made methods and integrations for getting backlinks to the pages

Be interesting to see how this pans out.

  7. I would like the ability to add objects to the area bellow the side navigation. I haven’t found were this code is with Aff Genie yet but it would certainly help flesh out the site and add some versatility for adverts or social icons.

  9. I second Stew in the ability to make the site mobile-ready. I can’t wait for the SDK and the eventual site builder. This sounds like you are addressing almost all of the issues I had with Affiliate Genie. Categories is a MUST. This will allow us to create simple mini sites that can evolve into authority sites over time without having to migrate to another platform. Keep us posted!

  10. @stuart

Page level ads is already written in to Predator you have the ability to select whatever promo you like for each page.

Click through stats I will look into

Split testing is something we can integrate

Other scripts will be much easier to put in this version and the templates while be able to handle PHP scripts in individual pages also. Allowing for rss feed to be pulled in using scripts etc…

Categories is written in already with a collapsible menu.

We are looking into integration of backlink generation.

  11. @John

Video and text will be able to be added using the WYSIWYG editor for pages.

Auto content feeding although it sounds like a great idea in theory is really not what we are after with this concept.

Affgenie, Mako and Predator are all focused on building unique content authority sites in your niche.

Authority sites are not build with scraped or auto filled content. They are built with unique articles and content written for that site.

Chris has discussed this many times on thelazymarketer.com and I am a firm believer in unique content all the way. unique = Longtail scraped or blackhat content = short life span.

  12. @Mobile questions

With todays smart phone technology any non flash based site will display properly on your phones browser.

However with that in mind there are ways to optimize for mobile. I am looking into the possibility of detecting a mobile connection and then automatically applying a mobile theme which would be less graphic intensive.

We shall see how the mobile aspect works out.

  13. Yes I have found your products interesting and bought a few but I have found the products to be full of bugs and the support is just tolerant after money is dished out, many time just not fixing things at all.

How do you plan to address the much lacking support element.. I am at the verge of saying i will never buy again from this company because of support?

  14. I am pretty much a newbie and I purchased Affiliate Genie months ago but was never able to get it going. I find that the instructions are rather limited for my understanding, so I just gave up on it and continued to use word press.

  15. @Mitch & Ken

I was originally not going to approve your comments as they are frankly slanderous to the quality products that we develop.

Instead I will address them in this post (even though this is not an Affiliate Genie support post)

For starters if you would like to know how we handle support for a $97 click bank product that most purchase using an affiliate ID thus making it a $44 product for Chris and I which is $22 each in net sales. (You do not want to know the $$$ and time that goes into developing products such as this!)

At this minimal amount per sale we have responded to literally THOUSANDS of support requests and released version updates to address “bugs” that have come up related to hosting companies and not the script itself.

If you are having problems with Affiliate Genie then feel free to email support AT affgenie.com and we will address your problems.

All TECH SUPPORT requests are handled within a 72 hr window.

P.S. There are literally thousands of sites running Affiliate Genie active right now with no problems.

  16. Shame about the name – sounds like CB-Predator by Chris Fox – which was/is a load of crap!
I would avoid any resemblance to that if I was choosing a title.

  17. Matthew,

    The new Predator sounds great.

However flexible this sort of software is, I usually find it useful to be able to execute PHP code from within the content (e.g. as you would using the PHP-Exec plug-in with WordPress).

    Thanks,

  18. Difficult to suggest too much on how to improve on the excellent AG. But improved design capabilities would be good, giving options in different layouts. Not hugely important though. I would like to be able to integrate Easy Video Player videos much easier.

  19. Being able to execute php scripts is an important feature I absolutely agree.

However it defeats the purpose of a WYSIWYG – while researching how to get the Rich Text Editors to execute php the responses where WHY, no-one that is using a WYSIWYG is going to need to execute PHP.

    Blah Blah Blah…

I have managed to do it on the development end. There is only one catch instead of using a traditional “<?php" tag you will need to use [OPENPHP] and [CLOSEPHP] the processing script I have written for the content submission will handle the rest. Thus you will be able to put php scripts in the content editor. (the will only execute on the page and not in the editor)

With that said when I roll out the Beta Test I will be testing two versions – One with TinyMCE and one with Nicedit a lighter version to gage the user experience with each.

    Thanks for the comments.

  20. @peter

The theme and template engine has been completely redesigned and allows for full layout theme development outside of the script.

There is also a quick select theme switch.

On that note: How would users like the ability to have a different theme on different pages? Just putting it out there no promises. If it is something that a lot of you want to see then I will do my best to get it in there.

  21. Hi Matthew,

Predator sounds like a good product. I would agree with the comment made about mobile support. Google does treat sites with mobile pages differently and you can get some very good search engine ranks if you have support for this. WordPress has some great plugins and i have seen site rank well on the mobile search and differently to the standard search. Given where mobile is going, it may be worth including to tap into this?

    Thanks

  22. @Steve

Looks like Mobile is going to be a YES – Now here is the real question:

If you have a subdomain setup for mobile eg: mobile.mydomain.com you are going to end up with duplicated content unless you block the spiders from visiting the subdomain.

Would it not be best to have the site load a different stylesheet/template for those accessing with mobile phones.

The mobile aspect seems to be a reoccurring demand for this so I want to make sure that it is done in a way that will not “hurt” your site with dup content.

    Thanks.

    Matthew

    2 Dec 10 at 1:07 PM

  23. @Matthew

I agree with the different stylesheet/template idea. I’ve seen WordPress and RapidWeaver plugins that do this without having to create a different site or subdomain. That would be a wonderful thing and I can’t wait to get it. Thanks!

  24. I’d also have a few suggestions on how AG could be improved:

    1. Too long URL’s, which is why a Custom URL/Page Name Text Field would be nice.
For instance: I don’t want to have “Find out what the Best Forex Tutorial can do for you” set as the URL of a page. Instead just “Best Forex Tutorial”.

    2. Custom text field for Title of every page.

    3. Not necessary multiple H1 & H2 tags ( site name & slogan + those in the content)

    4. Visual sitemap generation would be greatly appreciated

    5. Duplicate content in xml sitemap i.e. http://www.domain.com & http://www.domain.com/pages/home

    6. Functionality to add additional Footer Links.

    7. Editing functionality for already existing content – category names, file names etc.

  25. Hi,
Matt I would love to have a way to serialize, my custom unique content Predator site. Let’s say I want to create feeder sites for local business. Example create the “template” site with {keyword} placeholders that get substituted out for my actual list if cities that I’m targeting. If you could build it to have several {keyword1,keyword2,…} that would be even better.

  26. Guys has this conversation died?

As one of the previous commenter’s asked, what benefit will this have over a well optimized wordpress site with an affiliate theme in place?

  27. Sorry about the post being quiet for a while, I have been busy working the script – trying to go beta next week.

Anyways to answer the question about WordPress:

WordPress is a great blogging tool and has some incredible features for building blogs, I personally use it for all of my blogs.

The major dbenefits a custom written Affiliate site building tool (Affiliate Genie – Predator) and an open source application like wordpress is as follows:

Streamlined and effecient – Only the tools and features needed
The most beneficial plugins come included without the need to source them out
Building themes is simple and quick
No footprint or powered by links
    No bloated excessive code
More secure as source code is only available to customers and not everyone on the inernet

I will continue to use WordPress as it was intended to be used for as a blogging tool – but for building any other Affiliate or website going forward will be built on this new platform.

    Affiliate Genie – Predator
Has been designed and built from the ground up to be the ultimate affiliate site building tool that is capable of building mini-sites, affiliate sales sites, personal websites, sales sites and more.

Predator has been designed to be efficient, powerful yet extremely easy to use. Below is the main feature list as of today(I finished up a couple of powerful SEO Plugins today:

    *Auto Detect Mobile Browser
    *Delayed Posting of Content
*Simple yet powerful theme engine (single html and css file)
*Comment and Content dynamic RSS feeds
    *Dynamic XML Sitemap creation
    *Page specific featured promos
    *Internal site search engine
*Dynamic created category & sub category listing pages
    *External link list manager
    *Side Panel manager
    *Exit/load popup manager
*Choice of WYSIWYG editor (nicEdit, tinyMCE)
*Image upload directly into page (nicEdit only)
*Enable or disable noFollow on commmentor links
    *Page Specific commmenting enable/disable
*One click multiple search engine submission
*One click submission major search engine sitemap updaters

As you can see ALL of the most requested tools for building powerful Affiliate sites are included with the script with no need to source out and purchase plugins for WordPress.

The theme engine for Predator was designed to be as easy as possible to create and develop themes for utilizing a single CSS and layout.html file to build your own custom themes.

Anyways I have rambled on here longer than expected – a complete post with all the features and a demo will be coming out soon so keep an eye on your inbox…
